National Scholarship Portal (NSP) 2023-24 is a digital gateway for different government scholarship schemes offered by  Central Government, State Governments and other government agencies like UGC and AICTE. It is a one-stop platform for students who are interested in applying for various educational schemes and scholarship services.  The portal looks after end to end implementation of the scholarship schemes and their disbursement as well.

The National Scholarship Portal hosts 118 scholarship schemes worth hundreds of crores for the scholarship seekers registered on the platform. It is taken as a ‘Mission Mode Project’ under the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP). As per the data released for the academic year 2023, NSP has helped the government implement and disburse scholarships worth more than ₹2,800 crores (₹2875.50 to be precise). The platform boasts more than 127 lakh applications out of which over 84 Lakh applications are verified.

Administrative reasons:

  • High application volume: If the scholarship attracted a significantly higher number of applicants than anticipated, processing and verifying applications could take longer, delaying the merit list.
  • Changes in selection criteria or processes: Sometimes, scholarship programs undergo adjustments after application deadlines. Implementing these changes can cause delays in finalizing the merit list.
  • Delay in funding allocation: Scholarship disbursements depend on allocated funds being released from relevant authorities. Delays in fund availability can push back the merit list and disbursement timeline.
  • Unforeseen events: Unforeseen circumstances like natural disasters, public holidays, or technical disruptions at government offices can lead to temporary delays in the selection process.

Other potential reasons:

  • Technical glitches: The NSP platform might have encountered technical issues during application processing or merit list generation, causing delays.
  • Scrutiny and verification: The selection process might involve thorough scrutiny of applications and additional verification steps, taking more time than usual.

It’s important to note that these are just possibilities, and the actual reason for the delay might be different.
